In addition to taking care of our bodies through proper nutrition, I believe in caring for our emotional and spiritual health. Here are a few books that I found helpful.
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie (Author of How to Win Friends and Influence People) ........My chiropractor lent me this book (I have yet to return it) *Count your blessings, not your troubles. *Worrying destroys our ability to concentrate. *Advance confidently in the direction of your dreams. *Our life is what our thoughts make it. *Never waste a minute thinking about people you don't like. *To be robbed or wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it
The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn by Florence Scovel Shinn 4 Complete Books The Game of Life, The Power of the Spoken Word, Your World is Your Wand, The Secret of Success ........My 'Chakra Lady' recommended this. I highly suggest it for anyone who thinks 'glass is have empty'.
*Fear robs you of all power. You face defeat whenever you are fearful. When you are fearful, you begin to attract the thing you fear. *You are either heading for lack, or heading for abundance. Rich thoughts produce rich surroundings. Change your thoughts, all your conditions change. You nourish negative thoughts by giving them your attention. *Be undisturbed by a situation, and it will fall away of its own weight. *Do not let other people rock your boat. *All the organs of the body are affected by resentment - anger blurs the visions, poisons the blood, is the root of many diseases.
Affirmations of Florence Scovel Shinn ...........I carry some of these affirmations in my purse. When Eric & I were hosting listeners on a trip to Mexico, I was sitting by the pool with Josh Kelley, one of the performers, and our conversation led to affirmations. I showed him some of mine and he asked to borrow a few to write down. I'll share those with you, too!
~I bless the past and forget it. I bless the future, knowing it has in store for me endless joys. I live fully in the Now. ~Divine Order is now established in my mind, body and affairs. ~I cast this burden of resentment on the Christ within, and I go free, to be loving, harmonious, and happy. ~Divine love floods my consciousness with health, and every cell in my body is filled with light.
Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston .......I saw the author on Oprah....enough said. This book focuses on a more spiritual way to good health and happiness.
You! Staying Young by Michael F. Roizen M.D. and Mehmet C. Oz, M.D ....Again, saw them on Oprah. A plethora of information for getting and staying healthy. I keep this book in bathroom
Wear Your Life Well by Marilu Henner. Yes, Marilu Henner ......She was on our show and I was totally impressed by her knowledge of healthy living. I've learned SO much from her books. The one thing I share with everyone is one of the best stress relievers I have ever heard. And it is two simple words...... EMBRACE STRESS. We all have stress in our lives on some level. Instead of letting it get to us, accept that it is simply a part of our day. Some of the other tips from the book that I incorporated into my daily routine: Skin brushing. It helps remove toxins from the body. The best way to skin brush is to use short, firm strokes in the direction of your heart. Give a good brush to your underarms, the back of your knees, and your inner thighs to really stimulate the lymphatic system. Women, avoid the breasts. Rebounding. Another way to detox (plus the kids love it) A rebounder is a small trampoline with a handrail. Bounce gently up and down for two minutes. It stimulates the lymphatic system and production of white blood cells that are key for the immune system. I could give a gabillion more tips but if I were to recommend any book for getting healthy, this would be it. Check out all of her books at marilu.com
Ageless by Suzanne Somers .......I bought this book in the Atlanta airport while waiting for a flight. The cover of the book is a huge picture of Suzanne Somers with the title in giant letters AGELESS.
Healing with Whole Foods Asian Traditions & Modern Nutrition ......My acupuncturist suggested this book. I would love to have the time to actually read it. It explains the importance of balancing acidic/alkaline foods, as well as balancing foods that have a cooling/heating effect on the body, which is important when you're dealing with certain health issues like the flu.
I was so embarrassed, I hid the cover while I read it. That said, she has some excellent advice on how to slow the aging process. The book also deals with the controversial bioidentical hormones. She has been criticized by some for her opinion on this and her most recent book, Knockout, which focuses on interviews with doctors who are curing cancer--and how to prevent getting it in the first place. I saw her on a talk show where she epxlains that we all have cancer in our bodies but we also have cancer protective genes. They're like light switches that are turned on. And they get turned off by certain diet and lifestyle habits. You turn off one by living with and eating chemicals. You turn off one by poor food choices. You turn off one by not sleeping enough. You turn one off with high stress. You turn off one if you have imbalanced hormones. Check out all her books, products, etc at SuzanneSomers.com
